Voter Awareness
To support the 2025 Board of Directors election, South Suburban Park and Recreation District partnered with Wasteland Marketing to create a voter awareness campaign aimed at increasing absentee ballot requests and boosting overall voter turnout. Through a mix of infographics, digital and social content, and even vehicle graphics with QR codes, we built a clear, informative campaign that encouraged the community to get involved, vote, and shape the future of South Suburban.



Brief
South Suburban Park and Recreation District plays a vital role in the community, overseeing everything from neighborhood parks and trails to recreation centers, cultural programs, and future development. The 2025 Board of Directors election was an important opportunity for residents to have a voice in decisions that directly impact their community.
The campaign had two key goals:
Increase awareness of absentee ballots and educate voters on how to request and submit one.
Boost overall voter participation by showing residents why their vote matters and making it simple to understand when, where, and how to vote.
South Suburban needed a clear, consistent set of materials to spread this message across print, digital, and in-person channels—while also reinforcing transparency and trust in the election process.
Solution
Wasteland Marketing created a comprehensive visual campaign to inform and engage voters ahead of Election Day.
Our approach included:
A two-page infographic spread for the spring catalog, outlining key dates, how to apply for an absentee ballot, and voting locations.
A series of social media graphics to build awareness in the weeks leading up to the election, educating the community about absentee voting, ways to get involved, and why their vote matters.
Simple, shareable graphics for the website and social platforms with clear instructions for the three ways to vote in the election.
Truck graphics featuring a QR code, turning South Suburban vehicles into mobile reminders to vote and making information easy to access.
A post-election infographic celebrating results and sharing the campaign’s impact, including a 56.77% increase in total ballots cast and a 43.57% increase in voter participation across the district.
By creating cohesive, accessible messaging, we built a campaign that removed barriers to participation and helped more residents see the direct connection between their vote and the future of South Suburban.
